About this piece
The subject tilts her face toward a light we cannot see, eyes closed, mouth open in something between laughter and breath. Her hair is worked as a dark corona flecked with gold and stamped circles, so the whole upper half of the sheet becomes a halo without ever announcing itself as one. Doljenkova keeps the skin translucent and lets the rose-pink ground bleed through at the edges. Unguarded joy, painted without a trace of sentimentality.
