About this piece
Figures move in procession across a burning horizon, painted as flat silhouettes so that gesture carries everything — a lifted arm, a turned hip, a child keeping pace at the end of the line. Beneath them the ground is built from collaged pattern: printed cloth, stamped circles, dry-brushed ochre laid over paper that still shows its seams. The sun sits low and enormous, more presence than light source. Ceremonial and unhurried, with the particular warmth of a thing done every year.
