About this piece
A snow-shouldered mountain rises through banded cloud with a small moon hung above it, and at its foot a stand of dark pines meets water the colour of glacier melt. Doljenkova builds the rock in dry, dragged strokes that catch the tooth of the canvas, so the face of the mountain has genuine grain to it. The teal of the water is the only saturated note and it does a great deal of work. Cold, still, and quietly monumental.
