About this piece
Two-thirds sky: a mass of slate and indigo cloud builds across the sheet, its underside already trailing rain over the distant hills. Below, the land is a single flat wash of dry gold, dotted with scrub, holding the last of the light. Doljenkova gets the whole drama out of one wet-into-wet passage and then has the discipline to stop. A small painting about the minute before it breaks.
